About Hi-Hat
After many years working in all aspects of the music industry... indie new release co-ordinator, production manager, general a&r person - organising gigs and playing in bands myself, I decided to combine my love of music with my love of design and go back to college with a view to designing... shoes... or record sleeves . Record sleeves seemed the most sensible option. As indie buyer at Windsong Intl. in the 80s and then at Lightning Exports in the 90s, I'd receive review copies every week and often look at the sleeves thinking... I could do better. Others were truly inspiring such as anything from 4AD, Factory, Creation, El and everything by Phil Smee!

Once my rudimentary Mac skills were honed, a few kind people let me have a go at producing sleeve designs and I built it up from there. My first employment as a full time designer came along thanks to Hugh Gilmour, Head of Design at Castle Music. While there I was lucky enough to work on albums by such luminaries as The Kinks, Bert Jansch, The Fall, Elvis Presley and David Bowie. Unfortunately, the 2 hour commute from North London to Chessington finally got the better of me but I'd gained enough confidence to go freelance which I have been ever since and have now relocated to the beautiful East Kent coast.
